Tom Andrew is a uk based ARTIST.

Currently producing artwork under his own name, alongside being part of the creative duo BLACKWALL.

Tom Andrew’s work focusses on ideas of movement, emotion and consciousness, themes explored through experimental lighting and printing processes.

For the last 5 years Tom’s artwork has been a response to a time of mental health struggles and intense feelings of anxiety. After a great deal of introspection to identify the source of the anxiety, he came across a strobe light that visually evoked the intense feelings he experienced during this time. Within these visualised tremors, Tom is searching the myriad physical and psychological experiences that form an individual, creating imagery that observes the integration between conscious and subconscious worlds.

About

INTERPERSONAL

Currently in development, INTERPERSONAL is a body of work inspired by “Ego State Theory”, a concept that addresses how our various “ego states” influence our behaviours. The series explores an unseen truth, capturing fragmented moments immersed in the depths of our egos.

The works feature people set in the situations they live in, either together in groups or alone. The infinite void of the studio becomes their “home” where they are photographed under a sequence of strobe light exposures… each strobe capturing a unique moment, as fragmented pieces accumulate to form a symbolic, true self.
